“The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.
Luke 15:21-24

What we see in this parable is a picture of God’s lavish grace, which triumphs over every imaginable kind of sin. God saves sinners—including the very worst of sinners. And when He does, He instantly elevates the newly reborn sinner to a position of privilege and blessing that is exceedingly and abundantly beyond anything we could ever ask or think.
Just like the prodigal son, we do not have to go through hoops, prove ourselves, or wait for a right time to receive God’s grace. All we need is a heart that is desperate for God’s love.
Jesus calls us to confess our own need for divine grace and repent of our self-righteousness
