Think back on a time where someone did something to hurt you. Reflect on the anger, frustration, and sense of injustice you felt. Maybe you still feel those feelings today when you remember that situation.
Conflict without grace and forgiveness is like a big scar on your heart that does not heal, instead the scar gets bigger and bigger each day. The more we play the scenario over in our heads, the worse it seems to get. The feelings of unforgiveness and the need for fairness carry with them a very heavy burden. But the Bible teaches us that unforgiveness and seeking justice are burdens we were never intended to carry.
Jesus chose to never reciprocate the persecution and cursing he faced. Instead, he lived his life in the pursuit of blessing everyone with grace and mercy so that they might know the depth of God’s love. And he calls you and me to do the same.
