Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

Rules are a funny thing. When we keep the rules, we feel better about ourselves and comfort us.

So when we do something wrong, we go to church and try to cleanse ourselves by singing louder or giving offerings.

Another example, let’s say that you yell at someone. You feel bad about it, so you act very loving to your child.

Your loving action to your child doesn’t forgive your yelling at your neighbor.

That’s why, Jesus was sitting with sinners and not with law keeping pharisees.

Pharisees thought they cleansed themselves by keeping the law.

But the sinners seek righteousness in Jesus.
